Skilled nursing services are provided as an extension of the hospital stay. This service can be utilized during recuperation from a severe illness or surgery. Some, but not all, criteria that must be met to quality for hospital admission for skilled nursing care include:
- Patient has had an inpatient hospital stay of 3 days or more
- Patient requires continual therapy and/or IV medications or other nursing assessments done on a daily basis
A physician's referral is necessary for skilled nursing admission. Most insurance policies will cover a portion of skilled nursing services.
Intermediate Care can best be described as the type of care received in a nursing home. This type of care is necessary for patients who have experienced an event which has made them unable to care for themselves at home. Crawford County Memorial Hospital's Intermediate Care program is designed to provide nursing services for patients who don't meet Skilled Nursing qualifications or patients who are waiting for admission into a nursing home. This private pay program is managed by the patient's physician.
