Greenwood to Offer Child and Family Mental Health Therapy Services at CCMH


(Denison, IA) – Crawford County Memorial Hospital is now offering mental health therapy services for children, adults and families with the addition of Jim Greenwood. Greenwood is a licensed Mental Health Counselor and Marital and Family Therapist. He specializes in the use of Play Therapy with children. He was formerly in private practice and in practice with West Iowa Mental Health Center. He has begun seeing patients at the CCMH Medical Clinic - City Center at 115 N. 14th Street.

Jim GreenwoodGreenwood received his undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa, and his Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. For most of the past 20 years, he has been in private practice. He began his career with Mid-Iowa Family Therapy Clinic based in Perry, IA, and then moved to West Iowa Family Services in Denison. Most recently, Greenwood offered services through the West Iowa Mental Health Center in Denison. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and Registered Play Therapist – Supervisor (RPT-S).

Play Therapy is a structured approach to therapy that builds on the normal learning processes of children. Therapists utilize play therapy to help children express what is troubling them. It also helps with the expression of thoughts and feelings. Overall, the outcome of counseling shows improved results in behavioral and emotional functioning. Through play, a therapist can help children learn more adaptive behaviors. Play therapy may also be of benefit to children as their thought processes mature and to help resolve conflicts.

Greenwood is available to see patients at the CCMH Medical Clinic – City Center location from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. He will also see patients at the CCMH Medical Clinic – Main Campus, 100 Medical Parkway in Denison, every other Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
