Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks Beginning of CCMH Expansion Project

(Denison, IA) – A brief yet momentous groundbreaking ceremony was held this morning (Thursday, October 31) at Crawford County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) to mark the beginning of its building expansion project to accommodate specialty physicians and their patients. Along with the CCMH Board of Trustees, the groundbreaking also included CCMH administration, physicians, and representatives from the Chamber & Development Council of Crawford County.

“This expansion is the natural outgrowth of our ongoing effort to provide high quality medical services through community‐based specialists,” said Bill Bruce, President and CEO of CCMH. “This expansion is due to the vision and foresight of our Board and its desire to meet the needs of our patients.”

Larry Struck, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees echoed that sentiment.

“As a member of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased and proud to be able to provide the facilities for our specialty physicians that are essential to their practices and the care of their patients,” said Struck.

“CCMH is a wonderful place to practice medicine and this expansion project will enhance that,” noted Dr. Michael Thorstensen, general surgeon.

Dr. Karl Hasik, OB‐GYN, added, “Patient care is of the utmost importance to us. Having the expansion project means we will continue to make certain that providing quality patient care remains our highest priority.”

The CCMH Board of Trustees approved the bids for the $1.5 million project earlier this week. Construction is expected to begin within the next 10‐14 days. The cost of the project will be paid from the cash flows and reserves of CCMH. No loans or bonds are required to finance the project.
