The Hospital Foundation of Crawford County has surpassed its initial goal of raising $350,000 to construct a Healing Garden at the new Crawford County Memorial Hospital. According to Becky Vonnahme, Director of Development and Public Relations, the fundraising total is now approaching $380,000.
"We're thrilled by the response we've received in support of this great project," said Vonnahme. "We believe it will be a fantastic addition to the healing environment at the new hospital."
Because Denison Hardscapes has begun construction on the garden, Vonnahme notes that the Foundation is no longer allowing the purchase of engraved pavers.
"Unfortunately we had to set a deadline to end this portion of the campaign," said Vonnahme. "Once the courtyard is complete, we do not want to dig up pavers to replace with newly engraved ones. We felt it would create a risk for potential loose stones or other hazards."
While the campaign is no longer selling the option for engraved pavers, Vonnahme notes that donations are still being accepted for the project and that other recognition opportunities are available.
"We will continue accepting donations long into the future for this project," said Vonnahme. "We already have plans for things that could be added to the garden in the future - such as planters or possibly even a small gazebo. Plus, we will continue putting money into a maintenance fund to ensure this garden will be well-kept for years and years."
"Additionally, any donor who provides a gift of $1,000 or more to the Foundation will receive permanent recognition on a new donor wall inside the hospital."
Due to rainfall that caused construction delays in the month of April, Vonnahme doesn't expect the garden to be completed in time for the hospital's Open House celebration on June 11.
"Our goal now is to have it ready, or very close to be complete, for the opening of our new hospital on June 27," said Vonnahme. "But that goal will obviously be dependent on favorable weather."
