SHIIP Program
SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance
Information Program) Volunteers
The Crawford County Memorial Hospital sponsors a free service to
area seniors. The SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program)
counselors provide free health insurance counseling service for the
State of Iowa. SHIIP counselors assist older adults who have questions
or problems related to Medicare, Medicare supplement insurance, long
term care insurance and related issues. SHIIP Volunteers are not
insurance agents or affiliated with an insurance company or agency. They
provide free-of-charge counseling and information to people with
questions about Medicare, Medicare supplement insurance, long term care
insurance and claims filings.
The State of Iowa created SHIIP in 1990 in response to the statewide
need for senior health insurance information. SHIIP provides free
informational materials as well as one-to-one assistance with Medicare
coverage, Medicare supplement insurance, long-term care insurance,
Medicare and insurance claims and other related issues. SHIIP does not
recommend insurance companies, plans or agents. The volunteers, trained
by the State of Iowa Insurance Division, answer questions and provide
impartial information to help seniors make well-informed decisions.
The Crawford County Memorial Hospital’s SHIIP Volunteers devoted a lot
of their personal time to counseling area senior citizens and
researching the Medicare programs. Crawford County Memorial Hospital
would like to express their appreciation to these volunteers for the
enormous effort and time they have devoted to area senior citizens by
helping them understand these complicated plans.
