Respiratory Care Treatments

The Cardiopulmonary staff at CCMH provide services to inpatients, outpatients and ER patients who present with a respiratory condition (such as asthma, COPD, pneumonia, RSV, etc.). Treatment is provided to patients of all ages and is available 7 days a week. A physician referral is necessary to receive respiratory care services at CCMH.

Respiratory Care Practitioners provide a resource to physicians to allow the best course of treatment possible for patients at CCMH. This includes:

• Pulmonary function testing to diagnose obstructive or restrictive lung conditions
• Mechanical ventilation
• Inhaled medication therapy
• Oxygen therapy
• Other therapies/treatments as needed

EEG

An EEG (electroencephalogram) is a physician-ordered test that measures and records the electrical activity of your brain. Special sensors (electrodes) are attached to your head and hooked by wires to a computer. The computer records your brain's electrical activity on the screen or on paper as wavy lines. Certain conditions, such as seizures, can be seen by the changes in the normal pattern of the brain's electrical activity.

EKG

Physicians can order an EKG (electrocardiogram) to check for problems with electrical activity of your heart to help diagnose cardiac conditions. CCMH offers a 12-lead EKG and 24 to 48 hour Holter Monitors. In addition, the department provides event recorders and stress testing.

A few of the more common reasons an EKG can be ordered are:

• Find the cause of unexplained chest pain
• Find the cause of symptoms of heart disease (such as shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting or rapid, irregular heartbeats)
• Determine if implanted mechanical devices (such as a pacemaker) are working to control a normal heartbeat
• Check the health of the heart when other diseases are present
