The Hospital Foundation of Crawford County kicked off a fundraising campaign in January 2011 to transform an open space of around 10,000 square feet into a vibrant Healing Garden at the new Crawford County Memorial Hospital. By the end of May 2011, nearly $400,000 in cash and pledges was raised to construct the garden. Special features include a waterfall, babbling brook with bridge, Hospice recognition area, outdoor kitchen, semi-private pergola, courtyard area with tables and seating options, hundreds of plants, and much more.
The Healing Garden was finished in August 2011 shortly after the new Crawford County Memorial Hospital, located at 100 Medical Parkway in Denison, opened to the public. The state-of-the-art hospital has several patient rooms (including all of the Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum suites) that boast a direct view of the garden to help make the patient's stay more soothing and comfortable.
Patients, visitors and staff at the hospital are encouraged to utilize the garden and enjoy the tranquil and healing aspects of nature. Meals can be brought to the garden to be eaten, and visitors and staff may also utilize the beautiful outdoor kitchen, complete with a large grill, to cook food onsite.
