The Hospital Foundation of Crawford County has recognized that there is
a serious shortage of medical personnel in the United States. With that
in mind, they have developed a program that will help in alleviating the
shortage and keep people here in Crawford County. The Hospital
Foundation has established a Scholarship, in the form of a forgivable
loan, for people in Crawford County who want to go into a
medical profession and obtain their degree and are willing to return to
Crawford County Memorial Hospital or its service area.
In May of 2004 the Foundation awarded its first Scholarship to a high
school senior attending a school that services Crawford County. The
Scholarship is offered annually in the amount of up to $20,000 ($5,000
per year up to 4 years) for an individual who has been accepted to an
accredited school of nursing and who agrees to come back to the Crawford
County Memorial Hospital upon graduation.
According to State Representative
Clarence Hoffman, 2003 Hospital Foundation Campaign Chairman, "As
you may be aware, there is a national shortage and a critical need for
medical professionals and this shortage is expected to worsen as the
"baby boomers" reach retirement. Crawford County Memorial
Hospital has been blessed with an excellent staff and they have weathered
the medical shortage well. However, in the next few years, the hospital
can expect to begin to experience a shortage of Registered Nurses and
other professional medical personnel. Currently over 20 people at CCMH
have over 20 years of service to the Hospital and community."
The Hospital Foundation of Crawford County has looked at the situation
and has developed the scholarship program in coordination with the High
School Guidance Counselors in Crawford County.
Elaine Gotto, a Director of the Foundation said, "We cannot do this
scholarship program alone. We need community support in order to
maintain the excellent health care that currently exists in Crawford
County. Therefore, we are asking that county residents support our
scholarship efforts by donating to The Hospital Foundation of Crawford
County in the form of a tax-deductible gift."
The goal of The Hospital Foundation of Crawford County is to
"Assure a Health Care Legacy" for Crawford County. This
scholarship program is just one of the ways the Foundation will do that.
Thank You!
The Hospital Foundation of Crawford County wants to
gratefully acknowledge those individuals who so generously donated to
the Scholarship Campaign.
As of January 10, 2006, $3000 in donations has been received,
funding the program and the scholarship.
Additional donations will be highly appreciated and with the anticipated
support of businesses and other organizations, we look forward to
meeting our goal of fully funding the $20,000 that is needed for the
first scholarship.
